Guided- 19 Nights/20 Days
This walking tour includes a 7 day High Atlas Mountain Trek
There are few places in the world that offer a mix of pure ‘exotica’ with the sophistication and style of European café life, like Morocco.
This exciting walking journey offers four distinctively different regions and experiences - the cultural treasures and beautiful architecture of Fez and Marrakech; the Berber villages and oases of the Sahara Desert; the grandeur of the High Atlas Mountains; and the white-washed seaside village of Essaouira on the Atlantic Coast.
Where in the world would you get such diversity in one country?

Day 1: Arrive Casablanca.
Day 2: Drive to Fes, the symbolic heart of Morocco for culture and religion. Along the way, stop at Rabat, the capital of Morocco, to visit the Grand Mosque. Continue to Meknes, the white city, and the ancient Roman ruins at Volubilis.
Day 3: Guided tour Fes and 8C Medina. The palaces, mosques, medressas and fountains of this Medina are among the most beautiful in Morocco.
Day 4: Drive to Erg Chebbi through farmland and an old cedar forest to a barren plateau and breathtaking Ziz Gorges. Transfer to land rovers for our journey to the deep orange-hued sand dunes of the vast Sahara Desert.
Day 5: Erg Chebbi. Experience the amazing colours of a Saharan sunrise from the saddle of the traditional Berber transport, a camel. Drive to Todra Gorges and see some of Morocco’s greatest antiquities, the Kasbahs of the eastern slopes of the High Atlas.
Day 6: Ouarzazate. Visit Kasbahs, oases, Berber villages and markets of El-Klaa Mgouna then continue to the earthern town of Ouarzazate.
Day 7: Leave the desert and drive to Marrakesh, the most exotic and best preserved Kasbah in the entire Atlas area. It is framed by the snowy heights of the mountains and 1,000 year-old palm groves.
Day 8: Marrakesh. Visit gardens, mosques, palaces, and the souqs of the old Medina before reaching the humming centre of Marrakech: the Djemaa el-Fna, the central square.
Day 9: Day free in Marrakesh. Dine at a prestigious Riad, an ornately decorated house. The food, wine and skilled belly dancers enrich our last night in Marrakesh.
Day 10-16: Commence High Atlas Mountains Trek -
7 days walking between 1,000m to 3,700m with the ascent of Mt Toubakl at 4,167m. Average day’s walking is 5-6 hours. The climb is neither technical nor very demanding, and the scenery is sensational. You are ably assisted by guides, porters and a camp crew staying at a mixture of accommodation; Berber House; mountain refuge; and camping. After descent, drive to Imil.
Day 17: Essaouira. For a change of pace we make our way to the peaceful Peninsula town of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. With its Greek-like whitewashed walls and its mixture of Portuguese, French and Berber fortifications, it has a completely different flavour to our previous destinations. Fishing is one of the main industries of the town and the fresh catch is a specialty of the restaurants and the cheap harbour side fish markets are a must for lunch. Overnight Hotel. (B)
Day 18: Essaouira. Day at leisure.
Day 19: Drive to Casablanca stopping at coastal villages to sample some of the local dishes and stop for a swim.
Day 20: Casablanca. Walking holiday concludes after breakfast.
