La Tuscia - Viterbo to Orvieto
Footloose- 5 Nights/6 Days
‘La Tuscia’, is an area that was once the heartland of the ancient Etruscan civilization.
The footloose walking holiday starts from the papal city of Viterbo and follows on to Tusciana, a largely unknown Etruscan settlement. Travelling towards Lake Bolsena, you’ll walk along stretches of the ancient Via Francigena, the pilgrim’s road which once connected Canterbury to Rome.
Stay in the historical town of Montefiascone – known for its good wine. Once in Umbria, stop in Civita di Bagnoregio, one of Italy’s most intriguing medieval villages, set in a landscape of eroded hills. The grand climax of this walk is reaching crag top Orvieto with its magnificent frescoed cathedral and legacy from ancient civilisations. The Old Town is accessed by lifts and elevators. There are a series of Etruscan caves in the town’s foundations and oddly enough it is the world centre of the ‘Slow Food’ movement.
