Itinerary and Highlights
- Day 1 Arrive Apt.
If time permits walk to the nearby hilltop fortified village of Saignon.
(10 km 3.5 hr) - Day 2 Cerest to Viens (14 km 5 hr)
Visit the ruins of the 11thC Carluc Priory and 12thC chapel which is still in-tact.
Join one of France's famous long distance pathways to reach the tiny hamlet of Opedette built at the end of a rocky spur. Walk through the Gorges du Calavon to Viens.
Optional walk 'Circuit de Bories' to old dry-stone dwellings typical of the region. - Day 3 Viens to Rustrel (16 km 5.5 hr)
From the charming Medieval village of Viens, follow the famous 'ochre route', past rust-coloured rocks and golden cliffs to Rustrel with its beautiful 17thC chateau.
The village is also known for it Cotes du Ventoux wines. - Day 4 Saignon to Buoux (15 km 6 hr)
There are 2 options, the first for the more energetic via the Mourre Negre, the highest point in the region (1125m).
A shorter walk passes through the Aigue Brun Valley. - Day 5 Buoux to Bonnieux circuit walk (17 km 6 hr)
Walk to Bonnieux, one of the finest villages in Provence built on a plateau above the valley with views of the Vaucluse Mountains. - Day 6 Buoux to Apt (11 km 5 hr)
Cross the plateau in the centre of the Luberon Nature Reserve to reach Apt.
Its Saturday morning market is one of the great sights of the region. - Day 7 Walking holiday arrangements end
